Foundry Wedding

The Foundry is one of my favorite wedding venues.

It is so beautiful with the aged brick and the ivy climbing the walls. Without any decor it looks amazing.

Cathy and Tom were an amazing couple to work with, so much fun and full of warmth. It is no wonder that Cathy chose a sunny yellow for her bride’s maids and a yellow and green pallet for her flowers, she and Tom always have smiles.

Tom loves billy balls so we put lots of those in. I think the final results are classic and beautiful.

Thanks to Jake at jpweddingphoto.com for sending over these great pictures.

Thank you Cathy and Tom for letting us be a part of your special day.

September Flowers

September is a special time of year, its a time of transition into fall.

We still have warm days, but the weather is getting cooler. Somehow the bright fuschias, oranges and yellows that we enjoyed in the summer don’t seem so right any more, almost like we are trying to hard, like those people who wear shorts on the first spring day over 60 degrees, you know who you are.

These days I like to use a softer pallet, softer yellows, peach tones, and add in low lights of burgandys, suggestions of the fall days up ahead.

Right now Dahlias look great. I love them, but they have a relevantly short vase life so I don’t always reach for them first. There are some amazing garden roses in the market right now, gomphrena, lilies and really beautiful mini chrysanthemums.

Miniature Plants

I love miniature plants, they are perfect for terrariums, or for that little spot on your desk.

They sort of remind me of the miniature horses much cooler and these aren’t so mean and they don’t bite.

Some of the plants like Baby’s Tears and Spike Moss are just naturally small, Others, like the mini horses, they are bred from big plants and made smaller. And look like teeny, tiny versions of their cousins.

Here are some of my favorites.

August Flowers

August is a great time of year for flowers.

In late August, the days are getting shorter, the nights are getting cooler and the weather is perfect. From now until the middle of October has to be my favorite time of year.
Dahlias, lilies, Roses, all look amazing this time of year and are very beautiful.
Mums are coming into season and are beautiful with shades of burgundy and yellow. Celosia with its fuzzy texture and bright colors looks great.

August Flowers

The hanging amaranth, also called love lies a bleeding, drapes and hangs and just looks sultry and warm.

Locally grown sunflowers are also available. The world seems like it is filled with sunshine. Take a look at the dark chocolate sun flowers, like velvet. Mixed with white siberian lilies and beige saraha roses they are stunning.
Everyone always asks what we have fresh. So here is what we have right now… Enjoy.

It ain’t no crime to love terrariums

August News, Big Sale!

It has been a long, hot summer. Time to sow your fall crops. These cool nights are reminding me that fall is just around the corner.

Did you know that now is the perfect time to sow seeds for those cold weather vegetables? Every time I go to my favorite restaurant in Greenpoint, the ones with the Knights, who’s name I can never pronounce, I think about fall crops. All those lovely cabbages, carrots, parsnips, beets, and turnips; they love cool weather and now is the time to sow your seeds. If you have a little spot where perhaps a zucchini didn’t make it (damn caterpillars) or a plant that is just limping along, yank it and sow some seed. Didn’t get around to planting a garden this year, don’t worry, you can sow these now. Varieties like dwarf kale, carrots, spinach and lettuce work great in containers, so don’t let a lack of an outdoor space stop you

My favorite arrangement of the day

Feeling kind of bright, and I love all these locally grown flowers.
We have been blessed with some really terrific flowers this season. The right amount of rain, the right amount of sunshine

Here are some pictures of an arrangement that I made today. This was for a birthday. We have had a lot of birthdays lately.

Orange, Orange, Sunset colors

One Request, Sunset Colors. Brittney and Tony had their favorite memories around sunsets.
Second Request, Spanish Moss.
Third Request, make it fun.

Ok. Got it.
I had a lot of fun putting together this sunset wedding, all of the bride’s maids had a different shade of bouquet from pale yellow to almost red.
Roses, lots of them and protea with milkweed made this shine. I love orange.

Thanks to the mucho talented team of Bethany and Dan for sharing these beautiful pictures with us. www.bethanydan.com

Sunshine Yellow

Wasn’t it in Harry Potter, sunshine daisies, something mellow, turn this big fat rat yellow?… something like that.

The weather has been cooling down a little and I was feeling all yellow, here is a bit of sunshine that we made from flowers.

Weddings, weddings, weddings…..Brides, Brides, Brides.

I don’t blog enough. That is my thought for today, and I don’t take enough pictures, that’s my second thought of the day.

We were at the Foundry  in LIC yesterday where we installed the decor for Cathy and Tom, one of the sweetest couples you would ever want to meet. One of Cathy’s favorite colors is yellow and it matches her sunny personality the bride’s maids wore pale yellow and carried bouquets in shades of green, white and yellow. Red Table catering was there and their staff is always so nice and the food delicious.
We made some beautiful green centerpieces with queen ann’s lace, green roses, hypericum berries, and a touch of yellow, provided by kangeroo’s paw.

Unfortunately, I had serious camera malfunctions so pictures of the flowers are in the hands of the good graces of the photographer.
In lieu of pictures of those wedding flowers, I have some pictures of some other pretty weddings we did this summer.
We visited a lot of my favorite venues, The Foundry, Frankies, My Moon and the Green Building, and now I have a new one, Office Opps. Its an old factory building in the industrial section of Bushwick. Most of the space has been converted to studios and there is a public space with an arcade, screening room and gallery. The roof is terrific and it has a certain outlaw party vibe that is just great. Like mashing up a wedding with a pop-up club, in a good way.

Last year was all about purple and succulents.

This year is all about yellow and orange, herbs and greens and mason jars, lots and lots of mason jars.

What will next year bring…..from what we have booked so far, lots of birch branches, twigs and lanterns. I can’t wait to see all the sparkly lights. Our birch branch chuppah will certainly be getting a workout. Mason jars may be used but not as liberally, certainly herbs, aged terra cotta pots and lots of groupings with found items. Teacups and teapots are also on the horizon. Alice’s publicist must be working overtime.

I am officially tying a string around my finger to make sure that all my equipment is up and running before my next wedding so I can share all the glorious decor with all of you.
