September Flowers

September is a special time of year, its a time of transition into fall.

We still have warm days, but the weather is getting cooler. Somehow the bright fuschias, oranges and yellows that we enjoyed in the summer don’t seem so right any more, almost like we are trying to hard, like those people who wear shorts on the first spring day over 60 degrees, you know who you are.

These days I like to use a softer pallet, softer yellows, peach tones, and add in low lights of burgandys, suggestions of the fall days up ahead.

Right now Dahlias look great. I love them, but they have a relevantly short vase life so I don’t always reach for them first. There are some amazing garden roses in the market right now, gomphrena, lilies and really beautiful mini chrysanthemums.
