The Brooklyn Winery is one of my favorite places for weddings and events. Situated in the middle of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Winery offers the charm of a winery in a convenient spot near transportation and hotels.
I have a lot of respect for the team who runs Brooklyn Winery. They took their hobbies, winemaking, food, and architectural details, and turned it into a venue. Details were carefully curated from architectural finds, like the extra high antique doors to the bathrooms, antique doors to the venue, reclaimed wood walls and tons of little picture frames, antique photography and fixtures. The fishtank near the restrooms is the personal tank of one of the owners.
I have had the privilege of attending open houses at the Brooklyn Winery where they put out a sample of all of the different menus that they offer. The party is open to couples who are getting married that year and it is a lot of fun. Brides and Grooms get a chance to mingle and meet other couples who are getting married at the same venue. Couples have told me that they have made friends with other couples and have gotten together after the party. How cool is that? Everything that I have tasted was absolutely delicious and the presentations are amazing.
I can really tell a lot about venues before a party and everyone at the Brooklyn Winery is pleasant, friendly and just plain nice. I love setting up there and get a special treat because the bartender is big on show tunes and blasts them while everyone is setting up, before you know it, everyone is singing along. No too cool for school attitudes here.
The venue is separated into four main sections. Guests enter into the bar area which hosts a ginormous L shaped bar and beautiful wood walls. The ceremonies are generally held in the front Atrium where there is an enormous skylight and wall filled with succulents. We take care of that wall and all of those plants are my babies. I love watching them thrive and grow.
Ceremonies take place in front of a set of curtains and there is a wooden section which creates a pretty vignette for a wedding ceremony. It is very popular to order cafe lights strung across the top and it makes a pretty way to finish the room.
Behind the atrium is the tank room where all the wine making action happens and serves as additional room for tables when wine isn’t being made. I once asked one of the owners why they didn’t move the production off site, after all, weddings are a big part of their business and from October through January, they can’t utilize that space for events. His answer, “ We wouldn’t be a winery then” I have a lot of respect for that.
Upstairs from the bar is the mezzanine is a medium sized room that overlooks the barrel room. It is a great place for a small party or as a bridal lounge, on the other side is a small speakeasy space with comfortable furniture and antique portraits, it is a great space for the guys to hang out or for guests to go who may need a little break from the crowds.
Because of its cool industrial details and central location, the Brooklyn Winery is also a great space for corporate events, office parties, showers, and get togethers. When not being used for parties, it is open to the public and I hear that they serve an awesome brunch for Mother’s Day.
Definitely put this on your list of must see venues. It offers full service so you don’t need to worry about all the details and the food stands for itself so you won’t feel like you are compromising at all. Oh, did I mention that it is a Winery? The wine is pretty kick ass as well. I can personally attest to that and can’t wait to taste the beaujolaise at the next Harvest Party.
If you are in the DC area they have a sister location called the District Winery and a sweet wine bar in Crown Heights called BKW which also serves the winery’s wines and awesome food.
