June is Pride month celebrating differences and support of the LBGTQ community.

October Weddings

Stephanie and Breezy were such a lovely couple. They had their wedding at My Moon in Williamsburg Brooklyn last October.

October is one of my favorite months for weddings. The days are warm and the nights are chilly. The weather is usually clear and I love the transitional energy moving from fall into winter. The air feels snappy, crisp, and warm.

My Moon is a terrific spot for weddings. Ceremonies are held on the terrace and the cocktail hour in the courtyard. The courtyard has banquetts with curtains and pillows. It feels like you are in another country.

Weddings at My Moon

The reception is held in the main room. My Moon has a great structure of an old factory building. The tables are long, narrow wooden tables and the feeling is like you are in an old castle or at a banquet. It is a great place for a wedding or a corporate event.

Dancing and music can be set up in an adjacent room so there is a lot of place to have a party.

I love that it is so compact, yet has distinct areas for different stages of celebration.

Stephanie has such a warm personality and she really wanted something that was casual and feminine.

The Centerpieces

Centerpieces were made in wooden boxes with dahlias, lisianthus, calla lilies, roses and hydrangea. We worked with a pallet that included peach, burgundy and blue.

Wooden boxes look great in My Moon, we used table runners to soften everything and elevate the space. Table runners are a great way to cover a table without looking too formal or losing the effect of wood.

Rainbow Unicorns

I love the rainbow unicorn cupcakes that were placed on the dessert table. Why not rainbow unicorns at weddings? They are magical and weddings are magical.

Being LBGTQ is not a choice and can be terribly alienating for those who don’t live in a supportive environment.I wonder if Breezy and Stephanie felt like rainbow unicorns when they were growing up.

I am so happy that they found each other and they will always be my rainbow unicorns.

Originally from West Virginia, Kimberly Sevilla majored in Chemistry while in and worked as a lab assistant for the USDA creating GMOs. She moved to New York to pursue her dream of being a designer, creating costumes for Drag Queens and Club Kids. In her ascent to Club Kid fame, she inadvertently became an international designer creating 3D environmental projections with virtual imaging for events, museums and retail displays for lots of fancy clients Hi Chanel! in 2008 Kimberly decided it was time to get back to her roots of working with plants and flowers, and founded her floral empire, Rose Red & Lavender. Her work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Real Simple, Vogue Magazine, Carats and Cake, Style Me Pretty, and Biz Bash Magazine. When not scheming her next production, Kimberly enjoys spending time with her family: camping, hiking, and canoeing and having the occasional karaoke dance party.
